|Location:||Freedom Public Libary|
Our 12th Annual Winter Film Series kicks off on Sunday, January 7 at 4:00 pm with the movie, "Lucky." The free series consists of six films shown on Sundays in January, February and March. After the movie we have a simple soup supper for those who wish to stay for a meal and a chance to discuss the film.
Soup-makers needed: We will have a signup sheet at the front desk for volunteers to make soup and bread but for this first movie, please call or email Elizabeth at 539-5176 or firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. We need three soups, at least one vegetarian, so if you can help out, that would be great!
Lucky: Harry Dean Stanton was a gaunt, sad-eyed character actor who played villains and odd-balls until in 1984, as a wandering amnesiac in “Paris, Texas”, he became a star. He died at 91 this year, after filming “Lucky”, the story of a cranky, chain-smoking, 90 year old atheist living in a small desert town who, alone but not quite lonely, ponders his life and accepts his mortality. The film leisurely portrays his unchanging daily routine, the small absurdities of life, and frequent repartee and rants with a bunch of delightful acquaintances. The role of Lucky was written especially for Stanton whose swan song is his greatest performance yet.
